After reading about how to saving money on travel, sleep, and seeing touristy stuff, you may be thinking “Huh, this trip will be cheaper than I thought! Maybe I should throw some other stuff into the mix." 

Remember Chicago is a huge jazz and blues music center. Many lounges from the 40s are still going strong with nightly preformances.

Tina Fey and other SNL-ers first performed comedy at Second City. Every night of the week Improv Comedy groups like Second City perform in Chicago.

Chicago also has some great tours like Chicago Food tours where eat your way through Chicago. Mmmm. Also consider Chicago Architecture tours since on some you tour Chicago by water admiring the world class architecture. Save them aching feet.

Stubhub.com - This site opened my world. For discounted or hard-to-get tickets. Simply enter in the dates you are in Chicago and it will pull up all the events going on in town. Think cheap Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Bears, Chicago Symphony, Musicals,  and Concerts. If you have never used this site - you're welcome.

Hottix.org - It’s similar to TKTS in New York City. They offer theater, Symphony, and Second City comedy shows. If you don't have your heart set on a certain show, keep your schedule open and pick up tickets when you 1st get to Chicago. You can get huge discounts to shows you normally wouldn't be able to afford.  Theater companies release tickets to Hottix only a few days in advance, sometimes only the day of. You have to physically go to the 2 hottix locations in Chicago to buy tickets. However the website gives you a good idea of what events are available. We went to Jersey Boys in great seats 50% off.
